Vote for the person, not the political party

BY LEE FILER
In our community, we seem to elect politicians from City Council to the state Legislature and then turn a blind eye to what's really going on in their positions.
The idea seems to be that they have our best interests in mind mostly due to their party affiliation.
The Republican Party has control of every major office in our community, yet every day I hear people complain about the fact nothing happens to better the community.
We have a city that loves to fight with the state, and a county commission of five who believe only rural areas matter, even though most their constituents live in Cheyenne.
But none of these will actually work together. Instead, they go to their party meetings and let the party decide our fate. Now don't get me wrong: I believe this happens in both parties. I just am picking on the super-majority of elected politicians which our Republican leaders.
So how do we get our government to start truly working on a local level for the people?
First and foremost, you must research all the candidates and see what they truly stand for.
Second, turn a blind eye to party affiliation. Let's be honest, figure out whether the D or the R most love their community or only listen to party officials.
If we start doing this, we can have a more diverse government, and they'll have to start working together.
I don't know about you, but I want someone who represents me, not the party officials.
So in my opinion, most of our elected officials have zero morals when it comes to seeing our community grow and prosper.
We have an election coming up next year, and I challenge every voter to actually get to know who's running and forget the party.
Let's make our elected officials start using good judgment and morals for the people they represent.
